The Snapchat mobile app has received an unusual new feature. Now users will be able to get additional information about some objects from the real world, simply by pointing the smartphone camera at them. For example, you can find out the breed of the dog, the type of plant or information about the composition of food.
Snapchat has been investing in alternate reality and object recognition technologies for a long time. The first rumors that the company was working on scanning real-world objects appeared back in 2017. Then, in 2019, at a developer conference, the technology was presented to the public. Now the abstract possibilities of augmented reality have become functions that can be applied in practice.
Snap announced that new features for Dog Scanner, PlantSnap, Nutrition Scanner and several others will be available to users in the second half of the year.
