The popular short video streaming service Quibi, which existed for less than a year, has ceased to exist. Since the beginning of December, access to the Quibi show has been closed, the format of which differed in duration - 10 minutes or less. However, as noted by the online edition Variety, the already non-existent application will remain on devices until you uninstall it yourself.
Quibi found itself in a tough spot from the start, primarily due to fierce competition in the streaming services and apps market, and the fact that users could only watch content from mobile devices.
The COVID-19 pandemic became the "test shot" for the service. The fact is that Quibi had an exclusively "road" orientation. Its main users are those who commute to / from work in public transport, and self-isolation forced many of them to stay at home.
However, the Quibi format itself, in general, did not find its audience. Research firm Kantar estimates that its subscribers dropped to 710, 000 in the third quarter, down about 400, 000 from the previous quarter.
The company is currently trying to sell its assets, so there is a chance that #FreeRayshawn, which won two Emmy awards in September (the television equivalent of Oscars), will one day be available on another streaming service.
