Australian aborigines have been transmitting the legend of the eruption of an ancient volcano for 37,000 years

A team of researchers led by geologist Erin Matchan from the University of Melbourne (Australia), using the latest radiocarbon dating methods, was able to accurately calculate the time of the eruption of two iconic volcanoes for this continent. We are talking about "Budj Bim" and "Tower Hill" located 40 km from it. They are interesting in that the fact of their eruption is very accurately reflected in the oral tradition of the indigenous Australians, although the event itself took place long before the appearance of any civilizations in the world - about 40, 000 years ago.

The indigenous peoples of Australia never had a written language in the modern sense, instead, the extensive history of the life of many tribes is reflected in their oral traditions quite accurately and in detail. Because of this, old legends are difficult to double-check, and there is a natural skepticism that information has passed through the memory of thousands of carriers without distortion. However, in the case of the Budj Bim volcano, so far everything comes down to the smallest detail.

In the stories of the aborigines, a long time ago in the area of Gunditjmara, where the now extinct volcanoes are located, the primordial creature, fiery in nature, experienced a transformation process, escaping from the bowels of the earth and becoming part of the world under heaven. Studies by Australian scientists have shown that the eruption of Buj Bima occurred 36, 900 years ago, and just a hundred years later (the lifetime of several generations of people) 36, 800 years ago, Tower Hill also erupted. Isn't it the beginning of the legend about the fiery demon, who, on the second attempt, still managed to leave the underworld?

An additional intriguing fact - the so-called "Bushland ax" was previously found in the same region. The ancient bone instrument was buried under a layer of volcanic dust, which means the presence of people at the time of the volcanic eruption in this area. It turns out that the civilization of the Australian peoples has at least forty thousand years of history, and the legend about the fiery demon is the oldest legend based on real events created by mankind.
