As you know, the speed of light is about 300 thousand kilometers per second. So far, nothing is known that would move faster, so scientists use light years to measure the huge distances between stars. In theory, manipulations with light can lead to many absolutely fantastic discoveries, such as invisibility, long space travel, and maybe the possibility of time travel. And scientists from Germany are trying to solve some of the mysteries of light.
Using a crystal cooled to near absolute zero, the researchers slowed down the light for a full minute. This achievement broke the previous record of sixteen seconds and could have a lot of consequences in academia. The work of scientists is aimed primarily at researching quantum computing, but the final results have a very long time to come.
