Winner of the most prestigious architectural Pritzker Prize for 2020, Irish design studio Grafton Architects has designed a solid wood teaching building. According to the authors, the unusual and elegant building should highlight the versatility of wood as a building material.
We are talking about Anthony Timberlands Center, which is being created in cooperation with Modus Studio. It will become part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas (USA). It will house technology labs where students will learn advanced curricula. The center will also become a place for training specialists in the field of wood design.
According to Grafton Architects, the main idea of the project is to showcase the beauty of wood finishes, as well as its strength and flexibility as a building material. The design of the building is a combination of small timber details with massive load-bearing beams and light streaming through the glazed ceiling and exterior walls.
The Anthony Timberlands Center is the first building to be built by Grafton Architects in the United States. The project budget is $ 16 million, the beginning of construction is mid-2020. It is not yet known when it will end.
