Chongqing's famous "horizontal skyscraper" opens to visitors for the first time

In China, work continues on the Raffles City Chongqing construction project in Chongqing, but its most prominent landmark, the horizontal skyscraper, is already open to visitors. The unusual skyscraper is an aerial bridge with a glass observation deck and an inner park.

The Raffles City Chongqing project is estimated at $ 4.8 billion and includes a cluster of eight skyscrapers. Four of them support a horizontal structure, which bears the official name Kristall and is located at an altitude of 250 meters. The crystal is 300 meters long and weighs 12, 000 tons. Most of its elements were installed in place through laborious manipulation using multiple cranes.

Visitors to the Crystal Observation Deck begin their tour from the ground floor of the complex, which houses the exhibition, which was created in tandem with National Geographic and tells the story of the Chongqing Project. Then a high-speed elevator takes guests to the upper floor in 50 seconds, where the next installation awaits them - this time dedicated to the future life of people on Mars.

After that, visitors enter the inner park, and then - to the open observation deck, the goal of the entire ascent. The site has a transparent floor and provides a fantastic view of the city below and the confluence of two nearby rivers. There is also a private club inside the Crystal with two swimming pools, restaurants and bars, but it will be completed in the coming months.

Tickets for the Crystal Tour are $ 25.
