We have already reported on the unusual know-how of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games 2020 - the manufacture of medals from expired and recycled gadgets. Now the organizers presented the design of the medals and calculated how many precious metals they managed to collect.
A project called Tokyo 2020 Medal actually kicked off in April 2017. Across the country, since March 2019, municipal authorities have collected nearly 80, 000 tons of small electronic devices, and NTT DoCoMo stores have collected about 6.1 million mobile phones.
Later, 32 kg of gold, 3500 kg of silver and 2200 kg of bronze were extracted from this "scrap metal", which will be used to make about 5000 medals of various denominations.
The remaining electronic parts will be recycled in accordance with Japanese legislation on the promotion and disposal of small waste electrical and electronic equipment.
