The construction of the Lakhta Center, the tallest building in Europe, is nearing completion in St. Petersburg

The 87-storey Lakhta Center, somewhat reminiscent of an elegant glazed bullet, rushed up 462 meters against the backdrop of the historical part of St. Petersburg. Such impressive characteristics make it the tallest building in Europe and 13th in the world.

Lakhta Center has the shape of a spire with five wings. At an altitude of 357 meters there will be an observation deck and a restaurant with a panoramic view. Most of the premises will be occupied by Gazprom employees.

Lakhta Center has already received the LEED Gold certificate (voluntary green standard building certification system). The building has energy saving features. Its glazing has integrated mechanical ventilation systems, which significantly reduces the need for air conditioning, and rainwater will find its use in irrigation.

There are 34 elevators in the building, which will generate energy when moving down. The LED lighting, in turn, will be automatically adjusted depending on the natural light level.
